Save the Date

We invite you to join us on March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for FALLING PETALS!

FALLING PETALS originally premiered in October 2010. Many people kept asking about the show, and I'm glad we are able to give it another life.  These three performances are open to the public and feature two new stories. We'll be performing on UIC's campus in the brand new James Stukel event center located near Roosevelt and Halsted.

One of the five stories you'll be able to see this March is that of Jae Jin, who found himself growing up in a place where no one looked like him. Jae Jin has been an advocate of Erasing the Distance's work and I know him as a leader and a member of several community groups. Yet growing up, he was on the outside. Then he began to lose his vision. His parents lowered their expectations, thinking "what can a child with a disability do?" Well, a whole lot.

I hope you will join us for Jae Jin's story (performed by Dwight Sora) and four other stories exploring challenge, disability, resiliency, and community.

I hope to see you there!

What if you were shunned by your own family or community for having a child with a disability? How would you deal with a father’s raging alcohol addiction? How does one woman experience life after a paralyzing stroke as young adult? The answers will surprise you...

FALLING PETALS shares true stories exploring mental health and disability from a variety of Asian American perspectives.

These stories explore the personal experiences of Asian American Chicagoans on the journey towards health -- and the shame, strengths, and stigmas each face as they battle challenges both individual and social.
