5 questions with Krista Hansen
On May 12th Erasing the Distance will be giving a specially commisioned performance for DePaul's 6th Annual Chronic Illness and Postsecondary Educational Symposium, "Chronic Illness and The Arts." The performance will tell stories of students with all manner of chronic illness. Three of the four stories were collected from students currently in classes through DePaul's Chronic Illness Initiative.
We are excited about the project, and grateful and proud to have one of our original artistic ensemble members, Krista Hansen, directing the show for us. Now you can get to know her a little by reading her answers to our 5 questions.
Five Questions With: Krista Hansen
ETD collaborator since: 2007
1. What is your role with Erasing the Distance?Actor, director, and all around sounding board.
2. When you are not working with ETD, what might you be doing?
Working at Dominican University, where I reside as an Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts and the Artistic Director of the Theatre Arts Lab Series.
3. Can you share with us your favorite ETD moment?
ETD came to my university two years ago as an artist-in-residence, and my students wrote and performed their own ETD stories.
The University has never been the same, and neither have I. Someone stood up and said, “You guys are my heroes.” Well, that’s what ETD does – creates heroes.
4. What do you think is a pressing mental health need in your community?
Above all else, people need to be continually encouraged to share and reminded that they are not alone.
5. Can you tell us your favorite way to de-stress?
Spending time with my partner. And watching or reading mysteries.
